Dispensing assistants work on the front line of health care supporting patients in a range of community settings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They work under the supervision of a pharmacist and help the pharmacist and pharmacy technician.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What does a dispensing assistant do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dispensing assistants are often the first point of contact for patients. They play an essential role in:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>receiving prescriptions<\/li>\n<li>assembling prescribed items<\/li>\n<li>assisting in the issuing of prescribed items<\/li>\n<li>ordering, receiving and maintaining medicine stock<\/li>\n<li>listening and providing advice to patients<\/li>\n<li>efficient running of the dispensary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I become a dispensing assistant?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dispensing assistants work under the guidance of a pharmacist.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Training to become a dispensing assistant is vocational and you will need to be employed by a community pharmacy either full time or part time.<\/li>\n<li>The entry requirements vary by employer but applicants usually require GCSEs or equivalent.<\/li>\n<li>While employed, you will need to take the relevant modules of the Level 2 certificate in pharmacy service skills.
